Westwords, or the West Swindon Long Poem, was compiled over several months in 1997 and 1998 by twenty-eight students from Greendown Community School (now Lydiard Park Academy) and pupils from Brook Field, Freshbrook, Salt Way, Shaw Ridge, Toothill Tregoze and Westlea primary schools and Oliver Tomkins Junior School.

Through workshops run by Gloucestershire performance poet Marcus Moore, the young people compiled 671 lines about the community they lived in. A single performance took place at the fifth Swindon Festival of Literature in May 1998.

This enchanting social and geographical history of West Swindon was not published or recorded; but it will be at the twentieth festival of literature and at Swindon Viewpoint by the end of May.
